So after the rather long ride, we arrived in Brisbane. I don’t know if you guys remembered but I traveled to Brisbane about 2 years back and spent 2 weeks there. So it felt great to be back in Brisbane. Pancake Manor!!!! (look out for the next episode)
We stayed at Mantra South Bank which was located at Grey Street. Mantra is located within walking distance to the Brisbane Museum, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Mantra was previously known as Saville Apartments! Such a big difference compared to the Saville Apartments I stayed in during my study trip in Perth. Heh.
Today was also the day we said goodbye to Brent the stalker.
Finally shorter than me! Thanks Brent for everything! It was great traveling with you! Hope you had fun surfing back home!
Time to check out the rooms!
Single beds. π We were so spoiled by the previous few hotels where we had double beds. LOL.
Not much space to put toiletries but it’ll do. Seriously we’ve been spoiled rotten by the Palazzo Versace and every other hotel just falls short of our expectations. :X
We had some free time to walk around so we walked to the Crafts Village Market. Due to the heavy downpour earlier, most of the shops were packing up.
Here’s a pic of a few of the market. To be honest, I felt accessories wasn’t worth buying in Australia for they were rather pricey and you can get them in SG. Perhaps you can buy other locally made crafts instead.
Spotted a gum ball machine! I bought a few! Nice!
We walked around a bit and we spotted the irritating Ibis again. LOL. We headed back for some rest and to prepare for our delicious dinner later.
All cleaned up. π
I’m hungry! Can we go now?!
We headed off to Pier 9 which was located very closely to Jade Buddha!
Pier Nine Seafood Restaurant is an iconic Brisbane restaurant and offers a unique dining experience. The restaurant is located at the Eagle Street Pier and features floor-to-ceiling glass walls that provide 180 degrees of the Brisbane River. The menu is updated on a seasonal basis to take advantage of the best local product and the specials menu is updated daily for fresh produce. Specialties include six varieties of freshly shucked oysters, reef fish and crab.
When The Married Men heard that the head chef was Robert Palmer, they managed to get him to sing “I’ll be your baby tonight” for them! Eh I’ve never heard of that song before. Diff generation? π
I don’t know about you but just typing that has made me hungry!
Here are some sides that we shared.
Oyster shooters. I didn’t try this one. π
Wok Seared Calamari with Chilli, Lemon Pepper & Bok Choi.
This tastes unique. I prefer the normal calamari though. heh.
Fraser Coast Scallops, Grilled on the Half Shell with Anchovy Butter, Sorrel, Capsicum & Preserved Lemon Salad.
This was to die for. TO DIE FOR I TELL YOU! I miss the fresh scallops from Australia!
Mooloolaba King Prawns Trawler Galaxy with Shaved Fennel, Mango & Kiwifruit Salsa, Ginger Oil & Mint Dressing.
I really liked the Mango & Kiwifruit Salsa. The refreshing salsa went well with the delicious prawns. I only found it trouble to peel the prawns. π
Freshly shucked Oysters.
I don’t eat oysters but the rest of them were raving over how fresh the oysters were. This is Ross’s favourite!
Now off to the main courses!
Rod has the Bucket of Mooloolaba Natural Prawns Trawler Galaxy with Original 1000 Island Dressing.
A closer look at the prawns.
Rod gave me a prawn and it was sooooo fresh!!!!!!! Prawns, scallops and steak are my favourite!
Jen jen and I had the….
Rangers Valley Black Angus Eye Fillet 200g (300 Days Grain Fed) with Cauliflower & Porcini Puree, Asparagus, Medley of Mushrooms & Cabernet Jus.
Here’s a closer look…
Surprisingly the cauliflower sauce and the steak went well together! I realllly realllly liked the mushrooms. Delish!
Nadelicious!!!
Jen can’t wait to start!
Even Rod wants a piece of the steak! Look at his scheming expression! Even Ross is laughing away at him.
Confit Junee (NSW) Lamb Rump, with Soft White Polenta, Eggplant Kasundi & Wild Fig Jus. If I’m correct Jane Doe had this. I’m not a super big fan of lamb so I skipped this.
Char GrilledTin Can Bay Moreton Bay Bugs with Soba Noodles, Papaya Salad & Coriander & Mirin Dressing.
I can’t remember who had this but it looks damn delish! Isn’t this crayfish? They call them Bay Bugs there!
Now to dessert!
I totally ADORE dessert wines and when Rod suggested getting some dessert wine, I was almost jumping for joy! (well, i didn’t jump for joy just incase i got stucked. *cough*)
One glass of dessert wine a day makes nadnut a very HAPPY girl. BUY ME DESSERT WINE. I’LL LOVE YOU FOREVER!
<3
Cheers to friendship!
Pier Nine Affogato Short Black, Latte Ice Cream, Frangelico Liqueur and Belgium Donuts Filled With Burnt Butter Ganache. I didn’t try this one. Not a fan of coffeeish desserts. π
Oops. I can’t remember what’s this. π
Flourless Chocolate Cake Hazelnut Parfait, Truffled Tuille Kahlua & Hazelnut Oil. This was realllly delish. The cake melts in your mouth and leaves a really tingly feeling.
Jen jen finishing up the cake. LOL. Look at my expression!
Pic of us together again! π
Tartlet of Macadamia and Pineapple Pan Fried Confit Pineapple, Macadamia Puff Pastry Tartlet, Scorched Macadamia Ice Cream & Pineapple Caramel.
The presentation is so pretty! I had a lil bit of this one. Nice!
Group pic!
Definitely content!
Once back at the hotel, I was busy blogging about the trip while Jen jen waited for the doc. The poor girl had a jab. π
That concludes day 5! π Next episode day 6!
