I am no stranger to Viet Cafe. Ate there back in 2007 at the Raffles Place branch as Kingmeng’s wife had worked there. Loved the food and when Nicholas asked me out for dinner at the United Square Square 2 branch, I was more than happy to do so.
The place looked so different from how I remembered it. They used more lighter colours in their decor and the place looked more welcoming as compared to their previous location.
We were extremely delighted by the Lemongrass prawns. The crispy battered prawns were served with a tangy lemongrass sauce. It was extremely addictive!
As a huge fan of salads, I decided to try the Pomelo Salad with Tiger prawns. This worked well as an appetiser as it definitely whet our appetite. The salad was very refreshing! It was a tad spicy for me though but I enjoyed it despite having to gulp lots of water with every bite. The prawns were QQ and fresh!
The Clams in Lemongrass Butter was another dish that I extremely enjoyed. The sauce wasn’t thick as most conventional butter sauce which actually worked really well with the clams!
The c(hubby) really enjoyed the Imperial Pork “Sous Vide” Char Siu Style. The char siew was coated with a generous drizzle of sauce. The only downside? I was extremely full at this point!
When we ordered the Vietnamese Spring Rolls, I thought it would be the ‘wet’ version. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed this, the skin of the rolls weren’t too thick and the rolls were crispy!
I might be suaku but it was the first time I tried mixed Fresh Mixed Rolls. We couldn’t decide between the chicken and prawn actually. When Nich suggested we go for the mixed rolls, we thought it was such an ingenious idea! Perfect for wishy washy peeps like us :p
We tried the Beef Pho Varieties and Supreme in Original Broth and Assorted Seafood Pho in Spicy Broth. We were shocked at the amount of noodles and ingredients in the bowl. Viet Cafe has remained as generous with their servings as I remembered 6 years ago!
My personal favourite would have to be the classic Beef in Original Broth while the hubby was extremely pleased with the Supreme because of the different cuts of meat. We both thought that the Spicy Broth was shiokadoo though it did left our tongues tingling for a moment or two.
All in all, a great meal as always. 6 years ago, it was great. Now? Even better. But don’t just take my word, visit Viet Cafe yourself!
