Remember my previous entry on Shangri-La’s China World Summit Wing, Beijing? Here’s the continuation of my Beijing trip which was also documented on my Twitter, Facebook and Instagram!
Breakfast was at Grill 79, one of the top international hotel restaurants in Beijing. Grill 79 offers a breathtaking view of the Forbidden City and is well-known amongst locals and tourists as a captivating destination for international dining.
We had a tour of Tian’an Men Square and the Forbidden City and it was simply breathtaking. I loved listening to our guide share about the rich heritage of the Forbidden City. That Empress Dowager Cixi sounds really intimidating! o.O
We adjourned for lunch at this lovely restaurant called Temple Restaurant Beijing which is set in a 600 year old temple!
After which, it was a quick visit to Silk Market which was a real eyeopener for me. We didn’t spend much time there as we were rushing back to the hotel for a pampering session at CHI, The Spa.
We were given a small survey to fill and from this survey, they personalised a massage for us!
We were brought to our couple treatment room called Seclusion.
We both enjoyed their signature massage: CHI Balance which is a 75 minutes gentle yet penetrating palm pressure massage which focues on vitality, clarity and peace of mind.
Super refreshed! We soon adjourned to China World Summit Wing’s Grill 79 which is actually more well-known as a contemporary steak house!
Because it was New Year’s Eve, we enjoyed a very sumptuous 6 course meal which was paired with different wines!
All the glasses in front of me, waiting to be filled up!
Ossetra Caviar – Cauliflower panna cotta and sea urchin paired with Taittinger Brut Reserve.
Seared Scallops and Black Truffle with Texture of cauliflower with caper and raisin vinaigrette paired with a 2011 Sauvignon Blanc Domaine Vacheron.
Foie Gras Pot-au-Feu – a beef consomme with seasonal root vegetable paired with a 2009 Pinot Noir Domaine Meo-Camuzet.
Black Truffle Ravioli with Madeira cream with veal essence and thyme which was paired with a 2010 “Le Volte” Tenuta dell’Ornellaia.
Enjoying the delicious wine!
Stockyard Grain-Fed Tenderloin served with Confit shallot with organic carrot and ricotta. This was paired with a 2009 Merlot Hall.
Last but definitely not least, the Dark Chocolate and Oolong Cake, Berry compote and raspberry tuile which was paired with my personal favourite: Pedro Ximenez San Emilo Solera SHerry Lustau PX. A very sweet dessert wine that went down like butter!
The beautiful view from Grill 79.
After the lovely New Year Eve’s dinner, we went to prepare for the Great Gatsby’s Party held in Atmosphere to countdown to 2014!
My outfit for the party! The Gatsby Party was held at Atmosphere, China World Summit Wing‘s popular bar which is the highest in Beijing.
Atmosphere is definitely a beacon of style! Everyone who attended was dressed up and it was really a fun party! I love how friendly everyone was!
While I took a pic of us kissing exactly at midnight, the girls behind photobombed us! LOL!!!
Not only was there a dj there playing the latest hits, at the other part of the bar, there was a live band! It was extremely crowded and jam packed! It was really an eye opener for me! My first experience counting down in Beijing!
The next day, we visited The Red Chamber.
Had a very bad flu that day and unfortunately had to skip the tour of 798 Art District 🙁
The Red Chamber is a contemporary restaurant specialising in the regional cuisines of Guangdong, Huaiyang, Sichuan and Beijing. We were extremely excited to try out their Peking Duck and dumplings!
But before that, Linda suggested that I drink the hot ginger coke which is known to help flu. I really felt much much better after drinking it!
Here’s what we had for lunch.
Marinated Tomatoes with Plum , Spicy Mushroom and Crispy Pork Belly.
Double Boiled Pigeon
Cantonese Style Duck
Sautéed Asparagus with Yam
Braised Sliced Turbot in Superior Soup
Steamed Pork Xiao Long Bao, Pan-fried Shrimp with Mushroom and Vegetable Dumpling Shanghai Style and Pan Fried Bean Curd Skin Roll with Shrimp & Cheese.
Chilled Mango Cream with Pomelo Peel and Sago with Seasonal Fresh Fruit Platter
It was really a great meal! Almost felt like fine dining. In China, they serve the Peking duck together with the meat rather than in Singapore where they serve the skin only.
The whole experience was fantastic! We had such delicious and amazing food from The Red Chamber, Grill 79 and Nadaman! All 3 restaurants served the highest quality of dishes! The room was so comfortable and the bed.. was just heavenly. The amenities, the service, the spa, everything was top notch.
If you are looking for an experience like no other, you’ll have to visit China World Summit Wing, Beijing. As a first timer in China, I feel like I’ve been missing out on so much! I hope to be able to return and visit the Great Wall of China this time!
Thank you Linda for ensuring that we had such a great trip!
Thank you Willabelle for the company! It was really fun!
Back to home….. But I’m already missing China World Summit Wing 🙁
