[Invited tasting]
A few months ago, Skai and I were invited for a dinner tasting at Jamie’s Italian at Forum, Orchard Road. We’ve heard so much about Jamie Oliver’s restaurant but this was actually our first time in one of them.
Jamie’s Italian Forum, Orchard Road offers a taste of Italy with dishes that reflect traditional Italian home-style cooking, imbued with Jamie Oliver’s modern flair for presentation and unique recipe twists. The restaurant showcases a curated menu of Jamie’s Italian favourites alongside a mouth-watering selection of hand-made artisan pizzas. It opens daily from 10 am, offering Italian Musetti coffee and artisan pastries.
Some of the items we sampled were:
Cured Meat Plank – The meat plank consists of San Daniele Prosciutto, hot soppressata, mortadella & bresaola. Served on a plank loaded with mini buffalo mozzarella, pecorino & chilli jam, a beautiful selection of pickles, olives & crunchy salad
Grilled Pork Chop – The pork chops are brined for 24 hours before cooking which helps to keep them moist and tender when cooked. It is cooked al mattone, a Tuscan method of grilling meat under a brick which pushes the meat further against the grates of the grill, allowing it to develop a smoky, juicy and flavourful result. The chop is then dressed with olive oil and lemon juice when done.
Cauliflower Fritti – Crispy balls of cauliflower & parmesan deep fried until golden brown served with a fiery arrabbiata dip, dusted with grated parmesan, chopped parsley and lemon zest
Octopus and Mussel Spaghetti – This dish consists of three parts: braised octopus, flash fried squid and mussels and squid ink pasta. Octopus is braised with garlic, chilli, cherry tomatoes, parsley, white wine, capers and anchovies and cooked for 75 minutes.
Funghi Pizza – A white pizza with cheesy béchamel, truffle cream, truffle butter, smoked mozzarella, porcini and peppery rocket
Italian Hot Pizza – The pizza is made with a rich San Marzano tomato sauce , soppressata, hand rolled meatballs, buffalo mozzarella, chilli padi and pickled chillies. For the sauce, the tomatoes are pushed through a sieve and not blended. Therefore retaining some texture in the sauce.
Lemon Meringue Cheesecake – Velvety mascarpone & Amalfi lemon cheesecake, served on a digestive biscuit base topped with Italian meringue. Served with lemon curd made with free range egg yolks and a blackcurrent compote.
Creamy Panna Cotta – Panna cotta topped with seasonal fresh fruit compote.
Epic Brownie – A slab of pure indulgence. Homemade classic brownie mix (70% cocoa solid chocolate, eggs, butter and flour baked to 75 degrees). The brownie is served warm with amaretto ice cream, caramelised popcorn and warm chocolate sauce.
What I liked was that all pastas are made fresh everyday on premises.
